Mortal Shell 2 Walkthrough - Part 4: Marrow Keep (Shells, the Forge, and the Infinite Seal)

Getting There: Ruk's Map

The game carries you from Ruk's cliff to the glade under the mountain, to the campfire. Ruk's map opens here (Open Map); your goal is the keep at the center of the global map. Before setting off, turn around. In front of the caved-in tunnel waits a Coin of Mammon, worth 500 Coin when traded. Pick it up, keep the Ovum on your back, and follow the single path to the keep. One path, no branches.

The Temple Door

Black-robed priests watch the temple entrance; the game's own word for each is Disciple, and among them you pick up a new name: Harbinger. Set the Ovum down on the red cushion in front of them, because the keep is not letting you in with luggage. Before going in, swing left of the entrance: a Devout’s Chalice there, worth 100 Coin when traded.

Zhirelle and the Eight Shells

Inside the keep sits Zhirelle, vast and unhurried, keeper of the shells. She spells out what the game has been circling around: eight shells are scattered across the world, waiting to be claimed: and the robed body you are back in since Harros fell is not one of them. She marks two of the eight on your map for free. Learning where the others hide costs 3000 to 10000 Coin per hint: a purchase for a later, richer version of you. Skip it for now.

The Beacon: Leveling and Loadouts

A beacon stands at the heart of the keep, already cleansed; someone got here before you. Every save point now lets you level the hero with the Gloom you collect from kills. The stat track itself offers no choices. Numbers rise on a fixed linear schedule, so the hoarder's dilemma never applies there: spend all your Gloom, every time you save. The menu does hold one real decision, on a different row: Mether's Pulse, the healing reserve that Part 5 puts to work. The same menu also lets you swap shells, equipment, Shades, and Masks.

The Training Arena: Sester Genessa

From the save point, stairs on the left run down to a round arena. Sweep the freebies first: 250 Coin under the stairs, and a Ventrium on one of the altars. Then meet Sester Genessa on the sand: she trains you in the use of every seal in the game. Her bouts are sparring, not ambush; win the first to claim the Infinite Seal.

Behind the arena, out of immediate sight, hangs a drawing: Vratko's Self-Study.

The Forge: Franz and The Iconoclast

Directly ahead of the save point stands the forge, the smith Franz beside it. Hand him the Muradean Actuator you found earlier and the forge wakes up: melee weapons can now be upgraded at the Tarforge. Pull the lever on the right side of the machine to bring up the upgrade menu. Upgrades cost Coin plus Ventrium, the special stones you keep finding on altars, and the right first investment is the sword you started with: pour your stockpiled Ventrium into The Iconoclast.

The Lift to Widow's Overlook

Right of the save point lies a round hall, chests lined up along its walls. Every one is locked, and each opens for a particular shell or key: a wardrobe problem, solvable later in the run. Take the lift at the center of the hall to the top of the keep. Up top, talk to Ruk (the crow keeps an eye on you), read the note beside the statues, then step onto the side platform and travel by map to the beacon Widow's Overlook. That is where Part 5 begins.
